Privacy Policy

One Dollar Ultra (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) provides live GPS tracking for participants in backyard ultra running events. This policy describes what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

1. Data We Collect

Location Data

When you enable location broadcasting, the App collects your GPS coordinates approximately every 30 seconds. This data is transmitted to our servers and displayed on a public spectator map for the duration of the race. Location data is only collected while broadcasting is explicitly turned on by you.

Account Information

To join a race, you enter a join code (your last name and bib number). We do not collect email addresses, passwords, or other personal account information through the App.

Photos and Videos

You may optionally share photos and videos from the race. These are uploaded to our servers and may be displayed on the public spectator site. Camera, microphone, and photo library access are only used when you choose to capture or select media.

Device Information

We may collect basic device information such as GPS accuracy metrics to ensure the quality of location tracking. We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Display your real-time position on the spectator map during the race
  • Show race progress (lap counts, elapsed time) to you and spectators
  • Display photos and videos you share on the spectator site
  • Maintain connection quality and buffer data during network interruptions

3. Data Sharing

Your location data and any media you upload are visible to anyone viewing the public spectator site for your race. We do not sell your data to third parties. We may share data with race organizers for event management purposes.

4. Data Retention

Location data and race information are retained for the duration of the event and a reasonable period afterward for race results and records. You may request deletion of your data by contacting us at the address below.

5. Background Location

The App requests “Always” location permission so it can continue broadcasting your position while the App is in the background or your device is locked. This is essential for accurate race tracking — without it, your position on the spectator map would stop updating whenever you lock your phone. You can stop broadcasting at any time using the toggle in the App, and you can revoke location permission in your device settings.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest, including HTTPS encryption for all network communication and secure cloud infrastructure.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You can disable location broadcasting or revoke permissions through your device settings.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
